This workbook from the RF Technology Certification program demonstrates how to convert from dBm to milliwatts using approximation techniques without a calculator. An interactive calculator at the end demonstrates the process with values that you can enter yourself to practice.
This in-depth resource provides comprehensive coverage of femtocells and how they integrate with existing 3G and emerging wireless protocols and standards. Femtocells: Design & Application provides a technical roadmap for migrating to femtocell technology, covering network architecture, media protocols, system performance, and security issues. Detailed architectural diagrams illustrate various deployment options. This is a practical guide to the pioneering technology that enables extended indoor service coverage.
Successfully troubleshooting EMI/EMC problems isn't easy. You need time, you need a strategy, and you need to remain calm. Sometimes, you need a special "sixth sense" that only comes from experience because in some cases, your problems aren't even related with the EUT (equipment under test).
Article by instructor Arturo Mediano about near-field scanners.
I love near field probes because they let me "see" magnetic and electric fields with an oscilloscope or with a spectrum analyzer. They let locate sources of emissions in board, cables, and systems. Near-field scanners also let you see emissions, particularly all over a board. That's hard to do with a single probe.
Arturo Mediano teaches courses on EMC/EMI and Signal Integrity for Besser Associates. He is a frequent contributor to industry magazines and journals on these topics. This article appears in the "Practical Tips" section of InCompliance magazine.
Ferrites for EMI suppression are usually chosen looking for high (resistive) impedance at the frequency of interest; but, sometimes, that ferrite is not working as expected. Perhaps you have saturation effects?
Arturo Mediano is a professor at University of Zaragoza (Spain) and founder of The HF-Magic Lab®, a specialized laboratory for design, diagnostic, troubleshooting, and training in the EMI/EMC/SI and RF fields. He is also an instructor for Besser Associates (CA, USA) offering public and on site courses in EMI/EMC/SI/RF subjects.
Instructor Arturo Mediano has written an article for In Compliance magazine:
Digital and power electronic systems can reduce the radiated and conducted emissions profile using spread spectrum techniques. Typically, no more than 10-12dB can be obtained with those techniques but the result can be useful to comply with regulations...
Besser Associates offers RF and wireless training courses via virtual classroom (web conference), video recordings of live classroom sessions, and online certification formats. Visit the Besser Associates website for more information about available and upcoming online training possibilities.
This interactive web page allows you to look at the output waveforms from a switching-type mixer, as well as a pure multiplication. You can change the RF and LO frequencies and update the graph.
This demo is included in the Online RF Technology Certification program from Besser Associates.
This video is the DML presentation by Besser Associates instructor Dr. John Wood and focuses on digital predistortion for power amplifiers used in modern wireless.
