Back in the mid-1990's, Les Besser and I wrote a series of articles on RF amplifier design for Applied Microwaves and Wireless magazine (unfortunately this magazine is no longer in circulation). Since that time, Les Besser and Rowan Gilmore have written a two-volume textbook on RF circuit design that covers this topic as well as a great deal of background knowledge on working with RF circuits.
Also of interest to persons wishing to learn more about RF design is the freeware circuit design tool called "QUCS." This tool can be freely downloaded and installed on Windows, Linux, or Macintosh platforms. In addition to basic AC and DC circuit analysis, the software can perform basic S-parameter simulations that are useful for understanding the design process.
Using the book as a resource along with the free software package, I am in the process of recreating the content from the original series of articles as a guide for self-study on learning small signal amplifier design using S-parameters.
I am making the content of the study guide available during development to gather any feedback and gauge the level of interest to guide my efforts.
